1 – Clipperton Island
This is a small island of just 6 square kilometers located in the Pacific Ocean. The place is far from any continent. In the early 1900s it was used for mining guano (a matter resulting from the accumulation of bird and bat droppings). Around 1910, a lighthouse was built and the island was home to around 100 people. A ship went to the island every two months to take food and other products to the inhabitants. Until the year 1914 the ships stopped arriving because of the Mexican Civil War. People were totally forgotten in the small atoll that had no forest or farmland. In 1917, the last survivors, who were 3 women and 8 children, were rescued by an American ship. They were totally malnourished.

Mauritius was a true tropical paradise. Its natural resources manage to create an incredible illusion. When viewed from above, a flow of sand and silt deposits gives us the impression that there is a submerged waterfall in the place, which catches everyone’s attention.
3 – Ernesto Thaelmann Island
This is a small island, located near Cuba. In 1972, Fidel Castro, the Cuban leader, received a visit from the leader of East Germany, Erich Honecker. During this period the island was named after Ernst Thälmann, a politician from the Communist Party of Germany, and handed over to the German Democratic Republic. However, since the fall of the Berlin Wall, when West and East Germany became one country, Ernst Thälmann Island has not been mentioned in any documents. Technically, the island is the last surviving piece of East Germany.
4 – Ilha das Cobras
This is one of the scariest islands on the planet and it’s the most dangerous. The island is in Brazil and is called Ilha da Queimada Grande. The place is 35 kilometers off the coast of São Paulo and has become home to one of the most venomous snakes in the world, the Jararaca-ilhoa. It is estimated that about 4,000 snakes inhabit the place, which gives one snake for every square meter. The Brazilian government banned any visitor to the site.
5 – Palmyra Atoll
This place is formed by corals and is one of the most isolated in the world. The atoll has beautiful lagoons covered by dense rainforests and has the highest concentration of marine life. It’s a real paradise. However, there are several superstitions that surround this island. There have been some mysterious disappearances of ships near her. If you ever want to visit the site, you must obtain special permission and the number of visitors is extremely limited.
6 – Vulcan Island
This is one more on the list of strange islands. The place is north of the Philippines, where there is a lake called Taal. On the lake is the island Taal Vulcano. In the middle of this island, there is another side, which is practically the flooded crater of a volcano. The most curious thing is that inside this lake there is another island, Vulcan Island.
